Onto the next question “Who am I?”
This is always a huge question that feels like I should book a counselling session whilst trying to answer it, but here goes:
I’m Sorrel – I’m a Chartered Management Accountant and an Associate Chartered Marketer who specialises in strategy, systems and business administration. I love working out what makes businesses tick and putting plans in place to improve profitability, drive growth, troubleshoot and meet the increasing challenge of running a business in 2024.
I have a varied background – from working in blue chips, a stint in Belgium in a manufacturing company, to starting a multi award winning healthcare business 17 years ago (which is still going successfully!), acquisitions, exits, volunteer business mentor, started an e-comm business to fill a gap in the market and take on the big hitters (sold after 5 years), residential and commercial property experience, with some fantastic fractional FD roles and consulting projects along the way.
You can see my LinkedIn here.
These roles all have a few things in common:
I have always had a heavy emphasis on my management accounting skills – cashflow, timely visibility of numbers, planning and budgeting, investment analysis, strategic decision making, KPIs and using business metrics to drive profitability.
By adding marketing into my skill set, I better understand the drivers and it allows more realistic planning. It also allows marketing plans to be developed that are linked to strategy and are measurable, rather than just based on gut feelings and what the latest influencers are talking about.
I love systems! Automation is my passion and if we can use it to save time or give better results, then let’s do it. Integrated systems that allow data flow are my happy place. It goes without saying that I’m an Excel fan too (although I do caveat that it is not to be used for everything).
Collaboration is an essential tool. I have a network of freelancers that specialise in things that I don’t – I’ve worked with them all before (many times) and they’re brilliant at what they do. If I don’t have the answers, I know someone that does.
That should tell you about how I can help with business challenges that you have – I’ve made many mistakes and learned plenty along the way. I love investigating possibilities, opportunities and strategies and I’m always happy to talk ideas over. I'm a firm believer that there is always something you can do - no matter what the situation.
On a personal level, I live just north of Manchester with my wife (outstanding sales director and transformation specialist) and two children (the negotiation skills these two have taught me are something else), two cats and a dog. I like to run, swim and spin and spend time outside – the muddier, the better! You’ll see I like challenges and I understand the feeling of spinning plates and the pressures that brings – I can help you to navigate it.
For those of you that like more details, if you’re into DISC / personality colours I’m a red/blue, moved to decaf 15 years ago, prefer Garmin to Apple and love a paperless office set-up.
I’m always happy to have a coffee and talk through how I might be able to help, what is currently not working for you, or what goal is getting you excited. get in touch here.
